Why the Ban on Upside-Down Pineapples on Carnival Cruises Is a Good Thing: A Swingers Perspective

Why the Ban on Upside-Down Pineapples on Carnival Cruises Is a Good Thing

Recently, Carnival Cruises made headlines by banning the use of upside-down pineapples as a signal for swinging. As someone who is deeply embedded in the lifestyle, I think this move makes sense, and here’s why.

Carnival Cruises markets itself as a family-friendly vacation experience. These cruises literally cater to families—https://www.carnival.com/awaywego/cruising-fun/how-to-plan/how-a-family-cruise-gives-you-more-bang-f

It’s a place where parents bring their kids, couples celebrate anniversaries, and friends relax together. In this setting, the casual display of a well-known swinger symbol can unintentionally make some people uncomfortable or confused. While the lifestyle is valid, beautiful, and worth celebrating, it also comes with the responsibility of being mindful of context.

There are plenty of spaces and events designed specifically for open-minded adults to connect—and these are the perfect places for those symbols.

Family-friendly cruise ships aren’t one of them.

That said, if you’re curious about my real feelings on this decision and the complexities of public signaling for swingers, check out my Substack, The Pineapple Express, where I talk more about these conversations and express the real and true feelings we might have around this. https://open.substack.com/pub/thepineappleexpresspodcast/p/the-carnival-upside-down-pineapples?r=4au
